I was inspired to create this painting from a photo reference courtesy of Greg Doane from Lavender Ridge Farm, CT.

Greg and Chelsea Doane had the vision to transform neglected farmlands in Coventry, CT, into fields of beautiful lavender, herbs, and flowers to combine beauty and function, and they have succeeded and are growing every year.

My goal for this pastel painting of a be pollinating on a beautiful lavender flower was to capture the beauty and vibrancy of a summer day at Lavender Ridge Farms.

The painting is rendered in soft pastels on PastelMat paper. I wanted to create an impressionistic piece that conveys the energy and movement of the bee buzzing from flower to flower.
